Disc rando back for a rack

Disc rando by matthews cycles

After several thousand miles, it's time for a custom rack on this rando bike. Quite the eclectic mix of parts on this one. Not too many bikes out there with disc brakes AND downtube shifters!
This rack will be just big enough to carry a small bag and a few clothes while being small enough to be unobtrusive when unloaded. Curves and rocket shape for cool points too!

Yeah, it's really that cool. My favorite build ever...don't tell anyone I forgot the fork struts at home!

That's to the hard work of Dave Porter, we got some custom bikes into the most exclusive car show in the Southwest. The Santa Fe Concourso....think Pebble Beach on a golf course. Where else are you going to get Al Unser and Sir Sterling Moss checking out your bikes?
I brought a Tour Divide racer and the retro style 29er. I left the rando bike in the truck as I forgot my other stand along with the fork struts. Didn't matter though, it was a fantastic day. I'd go to every bike show if they were all like this!

Friday fork

S.c. 26 er by matthews cycles

Let a few projects go out the door without pics, but I thought this one was different enough to warrant a post.
It's a unicrown fork to fit a 26" bike in place of a suspension fork and might later be used for a 29er.
The blades I found for this were so big around it gave me the chance to use a Potts Type II dropout treatment. I've been wanting to do this for a while now....I like it!

Kick out the jams

A single speed 29er a bmx race bike, and a cool cruiser for the boyos.
Last week's fit of fabrication leads to this week's pile of polishing. I think I put 2 years of wear on my hands in two days!
Now the painting starts...

Want a custom rack? I'll need your bike(or at least your fork) to do it.
A few more racks in the Flickr set.

Just making sure the flickr to blog link is working.

Whew! I can post again!

Ok, I think we are back to a fully functiong blog again! From now on, I'll be posting a whole lotta pics to Flickr and just one or two here to go along with my usual lame descriptions. Then, you can click on the Flickr link below the pics to see everything. Welcome to 2012!

One for Memorial Day

Hope everyone out there is having a great memorial day. As usual, I'm way behind on picture udates, but at least I'll get one in for May!
Here's the touring 29er from last month after it's return from a great powder coating job by Damian Veleasquez. This one came out great, I want to keep it. Nice, light True Temper tubes, disc brakes, classic styling, and all the braze ons you could possibly want (I stopped counting at 27)..this is one for the long haul baby!
You can see the sweet custom headtube badge (from Jen Green, I think) as well as the Pacenti fork crown here:
Lot's of tire clearance for those wrong turns that end in mud bogs.
Perfect weather here today, time to get out and ride.

The Post Blogger doesn't want you to see.

A busy few months combined with Google's "improvements" to Blogger has kept me from posting for awhile...ok, a LONG while. Seems I have to download a bunch of new crap to be able to use Blogger correctly, and I just don't want to mess with that right now. Might be time to move this operation to a more user-friendly blog site.
Until then, lets see if some pics of the latest off road tourer come through.

Ha, it worked...and it only took me four attempts and half an hour!

ps- I'm beginning to really hate computers.

Bad pictures of cool stuff

A stainless rack sized to fit a custom bag and mount on the brake studs.
A bag mount that attaches to the stem with a bolt and the bag with a pin. It's really called a decaleur, but I don't like to use that term... like most French words, it sounds fruity when you say it right and then you want to smoke and be rude to people.
Finally a classic (1985 I think) Stumpjumper frame getting a new lease on life with  new brake mounts, cable guides, powdercoat, and fork. I especially like this color. Called "Misty Purple", it looks black almost everywhere but in direct sunlight. It has a touch of metallic to it too, which all bike paint jobs should have, imho.
Another Adventure Tourer coming up next!
